Hindustani Guitar

This instrument comes from north India, this hindustani slide guitar is a blend between four classical Indian instruments, Sitar, Veena,

Sarod and Violin. This guitar was custom made by a luthier located in Kolkata, India, it has twenty-two strings, there are two 'chikary' strings, four playing strings, two droms and twelve sympathetic strings called "tarab".

The Hindustani Guitar is played on the lap with the help of fingerpicks and a slide bar (just the same way as a hawaiian lap steel guitar or kika kila). It is an ideal instrument to perform music from India as well as other eastern countries.

Indian classical music is a very intelligent music which uses a complex system of ragas (melodic part) and talas (rhythmic part), this music is very much attached to spirituality and subjects of that type.

i.e: one of the ways ragas are classified is by the time of the day or the feeling/mood wanted to be reached. Inside of these ragas there are notes to avoid (in order to not break the mood achieved by the music) and important notes to use. A discussion about Indian music would be a very long subject to deal with, although these lines will give you a basic idea about it.
